Rich Chocolate Cake Recipe

Baking with chocolate

½ cup butter

1 cup sugar

4 eggs

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

Pinch salt

1 can chocolate syrup

1 teaspoon vanilla

Icing (recipe follows)

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 13 x 9-inch pan.

Cream the butter and sugar; add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt. Add to the egg mixture. Stir in the chocolate syrup and the vanilla. Pour into the prepared pan and bake for 30 minutes or until a cake tester inserted in the middle of the cake comes out clean. Pour the icing over the warm cake.

Icing

1 cup granulated sugar

½ cup butter

1/3 cup evaporated milk

½ cup chocolate chips

1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix the sugar, butter and evaporated milk and boil for 2 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the chips and vanilla; blend until chips are melted. Pour warm over the warm cake.
