Chocolate Chip Cake Recipe

8 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate chips

2+1/4 cups sifted cake flour

2+1/4 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup shortening

1 cup sugar

3 egg whites

3/4 cup milk

1+1/2 teaspoons vanilla

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Grease and flour two, 9-inch round layer cake pans. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt together. Cream the shortening with the sugar until light and fluffy. Add the unbeaten egg whites, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each is added. Add the dry ingredients and the milk alternately in small amounts, beating well after each addition. Beat in the vanilla. Pour half of the batter into each pan. Sprinkle half of the chocolate chips over the batter in each pan. Repeat, ending with the chocolate chips. Bake for 30 minutes.
