Christmas Applesauce Cake

1 cup shortening

2 large eggs

4 cups flour

½ teaspoon nutmeg

½ teaspoon cloves

½ teaspoon allspice

½ teaspoon salt

1 pt. mixed, candied fruit

2 cups sugar

1 qt. applesauce

2 teaspoons cinnamon

1 cup nuts

1 cup raisins

1 cup chopped dates

6 teaspoons baking soda

Cream the shortening and sugar; beat in the eggs. Dissolve the baking soda in the applesauce. Sift the dry ingredients together and add alternately with the applesauce to the creamed mixture. Add the nuts, dates, raisins and mixed fruit. Bake in a large tube pan at 250 degrees for 1 ½ hours.
