Dump Cake Recipe

1 can pitted sour cherries

½ cherry can of water

1 cup sugar

1 box yellow cake mix

1 stick butter, cut into pats

½ cup chopped nuts, optional

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Use an ungreased 8-inch by 12-inch baking pan. Pour the cherries, water and sugar into the pan; stir until the sugar is dissolved. Spread the cake mix on top of the cherry mixture; top with the butter and nuts. Bake for 30 minutes or until brown.

You can also vary the flavor of the cake very easily by changing the kind of fruit you use and the flavor of the cake mix. For example, try canned apples with a spice cake mix or pineapple chunks with a white or fruit-flavored cake mix.
