Butterless, Eggless, Milkless Fruit Cake


Print this Recipe for Butterless, Eggless, Milkless Fruit Cake




1 cup sugar (brown or white)

1 cup water

1 cup raisins

1/2 cup lard or shortening

2 teaspoons cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon cloves

1/4 teaspoon ginger

Candied citron if you like

1 teaspoon salt


Boil these ingredients from 3 to 5 minutes; cool. (Do not boil the citron.)

Then add 1 teaspoon baking soda that has been dissolved in hot water and 1 ½ cups flour, which has been sifted. Add ½ teaspoon salt to the flour before sifting.

Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes in a loaf pan that has been lined with greased wax paper.
