Butterless Eggless Milkless Fruit Cake
1 cup sugar (brown or white)
1 cup water
1 cup raisins
½ cup lard or shortening
2 teaspoons cinnamon
¼ teaspoon cloves
¼ teaspoon ginger
candied citron if you like
1 teaspoon salt
Boil these ingredients from 3 to 5 minutes; cool. (Do not boil the citron)
Then add 1 teaspoon baking soda that’s been dissolved in hot water and 1 ½ cups flour, which has been sifted. Add ½ teaspoon salt to the flour before sifting.
Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes in a loaf pan that’s lined with greased wax paper.
